Call for Papers
We invite scholarly papers and panel proposals for presentation consideration at PhotoHistory/PhotoFuture, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY, April 20-22, 2018.
The three-day conference is an opportunity for the presentation of original scholarship on the broad subject of photography’s — including motion pictures — history and future including applications, education, connoisseurship, preservation, and accessibility. Conference presentations, in panel or single-speaker formats, will offer the results of scholarly research, exploration and analysis, and interpretation and assessment about the multifaceted dimensions of photography’s past and future as viewed through multiple disciplinary lenses. Examples of subject matter to be explored include advertising, portraiture, art and design, biography, fashion, sports, photographic technology, architecture and landscape, environmental, journalism, social and commercial dimensions of photography, public relations, medical and scientific, industrial, amateur, documentary, social cause advocacy, preservation and conservation, public policy and public access, and collecting and hobbyist interests.
The conference embraces a wide range of academic disciplines and practitioners from an equally broad range of professions. Examples of academic disciplines are: history, archives, photography, communication, digital humanities, criminology and criminal justice, computer science, public policy, imaging, economics, museum studies, fine arts, and library science. Examples of both for-profit and not-for-profit professions are: archivists, preservation and conservators, information managers, data and metadata specialists, educators, photographers, museum curators, library and museum administrators.
